Employability Skills.

Employability Skills at Doncaster UTC

We are preparing our young people today, to work with a variety of employers and to be able to move across different employment sectors. Because of this, they will need to be flexible in their working patterns and be prepared to change jobs and/or careers if they believe there are better opportunities elsewhere.

In order to be flexible, they need a set of 'transferable skills' – skills that are not specific to one particular career path but are standard across all employment groups. These are commonly known as ‘employability skills’, skills that go beyond qualifications and experience.

While their education and experience may make them ready to apply for a job, to be successful in the role they will need to prove that they have a mix of employability skills.

The primary purpose of DUTC is to develop employees of the future, meaning young people with the academic, technical, personal and employability skills required to move onto successful careers.  To this end the development of personal and employability skills has equity with academic and technical development, underpins everything we do and is fully embedded within our Curriculum Intent Statement.

Personal and Employability Skills:

We focus on the following ten key personal and employability skills which have been prioritised by our Employer Partners to ensure that our students can acquire the professional and entrepreneurial skills required to move on into a successful future, whatever it is they chose to do.

These skills are embedded into all aspects of teaching and learning at the UTC and throughout the different terms we focus on specific skills to ensure that all students have the same opportunity to acquire them.
