Instructions to follow for a better working environment

Shoes
Only plain black shoes can be worn with the uniform. No trainers, boots, pumps or canvas/fabric/suede shoes will be allowed. Heels should be no higher than 2.5 cm/1inch.

n.b.- If students are not wearing the correct footwear they will be expected to borrow a pair of shoes from their learning managers at the start of the day– the shoes will be treated with a hygienic spray after each use. Please check with the Principal if you have any doubts.

Bags
Students always need a suitable school bag with them. This should be a bag suitable for a work environment. Backpacks or shoulder bag but no handbags.

Jewellery
Students may wear a professional and smart amount of Jewellery. This should not be obvious, and students must take responsibility for removing unsuitable items when in practical lessons. As a guide, a small ring on each hand, necklaces that are out of sight, bracelets that are covered by blazer sleeves, stud earrings in the lower lobes and a single very small nose stud will all be acceptable. Hoops or bars of any kind are not permitted.

Hairstyles
Hairstyles should be neat in a natural colour and not be extreme in style. Parents should consult, in advance, if they are unsure as to the suitability of a change of style.  Caps of all kinds must not be worn in and around the UTC.

Make-up
Students may not wear make-up, and nail varnish that is not natural or pastel in colour.  If make-up stands out, then students will be required to remove this using a make-up remover wipe. False nails are permitted but must be a sensible length and not hinder work or the use of a keyboard these must also be natural or pastel colour. If nail varnish/false nails are not natural or a pastel colour students will be required to remove the nails or the polish using nail varnish remover.

Coats
They must not be worn around the UTC during the school day.

Mobile phones/Ear Pods/Smart Watches
These should not be seen around the UTC and will be confiscated if seen. They should be left in lockers/Bags for safe keeping. If a device is confiscated it will be kept securely and students will be able to collect it at the end of the school day

Response to Non-conformance:

Staff will closely monitor pupils to make sure they are in correct uniform. They will give any pupils and families breaching the uniform policy the opportunity to comply but will follow up with the headteacher if the situation doesn’t improve.

Ongoing breaches of our uniform policy will be dealt with by the addition of a conduct point on Classcharts. If the uniform infringement cannot be rectified (opportunity to go home to change or borrow uniform will be given) students will work in the Focus room until it is resolved.

Continued/repeated offences could result in a written warning and a parental meeting.

The Principal has the final say on whether clothing and appearance is appropriate
