Doncaster UTC Students Celebrate Another Year of Outstanding Post-16 Results
Doncaster, 15th August 2025 – Doncaster UTC is celebrating its best Post-16 results ever with another exceptional year of results, with students once again demonstrating impressive academic and technical success across a range of pathways.
This year, over two-thirds of students studying Cambridge Technical qualifications achieved 97% at Merit grade or better. 71% of students on this qualification pathway achieved Distinction grade or better. The overall pass rate for Cambridge Technical qualifications was 100%, with the average technical grade a Distinction – continuing the UTC’s strong track record for excellence.
Jim Semmelroth, Principal of Doncaster UTC, said:
"We are incredibly proud of this year’s students. Their commitment, resilience and determination to succeed have been outstanding, and their results are thoroughly deserved. We also want to recognise the unwavering support from staff and families, which has played a vital role in enabling students to thrive academically and personally."
Several students have achieved exceptional individual results and secured exciting next steps:
Doncaster UTC also continues to deliver on its core mission — to work in close partnership with local employers and provide students with a direct route into meaningful careers. While the majority of students continue on to university, increasing numbers are now securing competitive apprenticeships with local businesses, benefitting from hands-on experience and employer investment in their futures.
Two students who have taken this route are Sinem Akkaya and Charlie Nicol, both of whom have secured prestigious engineering degree apprenticeships with Agemaspark, a leading local engineering firm.
Jim Semmelroth added:
"What makes UTCs unique is our ability to blend high academic standards with real-world, employer-led experience. Whether our students are progressing to university or apprenticeships, they are entering the next stage of their lives confident, capable and ready to succeed."
Doncaster UTC is proud to celebrate its most successful set of post-16 outcomes to date. CEOs Helen Redford-Hernandez and Garath Rawson have praised the exceptional achievements of students, describing the results as the strongest in the UTC’s history.
A particular highlight this year is the significant number of students securing apprenticeships and degree-level apprenticeships, a clear reflection of Doncaster UTC’s unique employer-led curriculum. While national figures show a decline in apprenticeship uptake, Doncaster UTC continues to buck the trend, preparing students for high-quality destinations through real world learning and meaningful employer engagement.
This year’s results are especially significant as they represent the first cohort of students to have completed the full five-year learning journey at the UTC. The outcomes clearly demonstrate the positive impact of this extended pathway, with strong progress made across all measures.
High levels of attendance have also played a key role in supporting student success, ensuring consistency in learning and progress. Combined with the ongoing involvement of employer partners, students have benefitted from an education that is both academically rigorous and practically relevant, giving them a competitive edge as employees of the future.
CEOs Helen Redford-Hernandez and Garath Rawson commented:
"We are incredibly proud of our students and staff. These outcomes are a testament to the strength of our employer-led curriculum, the commitment of our team, and the hard work of our students. We are especially proud of how many are progressing onto high-level apprenticeships and the number of students attending Russell group Universities.
